In February 2025, StormFisher Hydrogen secured US$50 million commitment from Hy24 (through the Clean H2 Infra Fund) to deliver pipeline of clean fuel production projects in North America. The investment will accelerate StormFisher Hydrogen’s current project pipeline deployment, including several facilities in the U.S. and Canada, with a total renewable capacity of up to 1.8 GW by 2030. With that investment, Hy24 is entering directly into the North American market, contributing to the advancement of clean fuel deployment in the region while supporting StormFisher Hydrogen’s export ambitions to European and Asian markets.

Clean fuel for difficult to decarbonize industries

StormFisher uses renewable hydroelectricity to produce green hydrogen, then combines it with captured biogenic and industrial CO₂ to create e-Methanol. This ultra-low carbon fuel cuts emissions in sectors that are difficult to decarbonize, including maritime transport, aviation, and road fleet, while also serving traditional methanol markets.

StormFisher is advancing StormFisher Varennes, North America’s first e-Methanol plant and a landmark facility in Québec, Canada. Once operational, the facility is expected to produce more than 70,000 tonnes of RFNBO-certified e-Methanol annually. Certified to the European Union’s highest standard for renewable fuels, StormFisher’s e-Methanol is expected to reduce lifecycle emissions by at least 70% compared to conventional fuels.

Enhancing domestic energy resilience and independence

"This collaboration with Hy24 enables us to advance StormFisher Varennes", our  flagship project, and reinforces our role as a leader in e-Fuel project development. StormFisher Varennes will bring long-term jobs and investment to the local community while increasing Canadian molecule exports. With abundant renewable hydroelectricity and a highly skilled workforce, Canada is positioned to lead the global low-carbon fuels market. Projects like StormFisher Varennes strengthen Canada's position in the energy transition while enhancing domestic energy resilience and independence."
